FERRARI 330 TRI – WINNER 24 HEURES DU MANS 1962 #6

Phil Hill & Olivier Gendevien

The Ferrari 330TRI that came to Le Mans in 1962 was specially designed by the Scuderia to meet the requirements of the regulations of the new 4l prototype category. Almost nothing remains of the TR61 version.

The list of new features on the bodywork designed by Fantuzzi is impressive. The details are listed in the history of the documentation to download.

If the 330TRI n°6 does not start on pole, it is because the starting grid of this 30th edition of the 24 Hours of Le Mans is ordered according to the engine capacity. But halfway through the race, the “clean-up” is done and the battle is between Ferrari and Ferrari. It is the experienced crew Phil Hill / Olivier Gendebien who finish the race in the lead with a 5 lap lead over their competitors; the GTO n°19 of Jean Guichet and Pierre Noblet (3705GT) and the n°22 of Léon Dernier and Jean Blaton.

The victory of the 330 TRI marks the last victory at Le Mans of a car with a front engine and the end of the racing career of Olivier Gendebien, then aged 38.
