FERRARI 250 TR58 – 24 HEURES DU MANS 1958 #12
MIKE HAWTHORN / PETER COLLINS.
1/32 scale reproduction of the Ferrari 250 TR58 that participated in the 1958 24 Hours of Le Mans. Eleven Ferraris are lined up at the start, including 10 3-litre cars. Three are entered by the Scuderia.
If the beginnings of the 250 TR were difficult, the year 1958 was very favorable. Before Le Mans they had already won 3 of 4 races.
The new 250 TR58, which appeared in November 1957, was further developed with left-hand drive. A large riveted protrusion on the engine cover and the passage of exhaust ducts under the two skirts allow us to detect the presence of the 12-cylinder engine. The original design of the front fenders, which were intended to provide better cooling of the brakes, was finally abandoned in favour of a one-piece engine cover.
England’s Mike Hawthorn & Peter Collins’ number 12 is recognisable primarily by his right-handed midfield, but also by the English circles that adorn him. He retired due to a clutch failure during the eleventh hour of the race.
