Alfa Romeo Giulietta Sprint Zagato, a thoroughbred sports car that excelled above all in road and mountain tests such as the 1963 Alpine Cup, where it was won by Jean Rolland and Gabriel Augias.
The official Sprint Zagato is built on the short-wheelbase chassis of the Sprint Speciale (2250 mm) instead of the standard Sprint (2380 mm), resulting in a very compact coupé with beautifully rounded lines. The engine also comes from the SS, producing a reliable 100 hp at 6500 rpm, although many Italian tuners, such as Conrero, will be able to extract around 130 hp from the small 1300 cc unit.
Approximately two hundred customers purchased a unit and immediately began to appear in all kinds of competitions, standing out especially in road and mountain races thanks to their lightness and handling, usually achieving good rankings in their category, and sometimes the absolute victory against higher displacement motorcycles.
The Coupe des Alpes, also known as the Alpine Rally, was one of the most prestigious events during the 1950s and 1960s due to a combination of rally and endurance, facilitated by a long route that crossed several countries, traversing the toughest mountain passes in all of Europe such as the Stelvio, Galibier or Cortina D’Ampezzo.
The favorite team was the powerful Austin Healey 3000, winners of the two previous editions, but none of the four registered units managed to finish the race, so Jean Rolland contested the victory with Rauno Aaltonen’s Mini Cooper, the two official Ford Cortinas and René Trautmann’s Citroën DS 19.
Limited and numered edition of 400 units.
