MATRA 650 – 24H LE MANS 1969 #34
Drivers.: Johnny Servoz-Gavin & Herbert Müller
Following the popular enthusiasm for the unexpected performance of Henri Pescarolo and Johnny Servoz-Gavin’s MS630 No. 24 at the 1968 24 Hours, Matra Sport decided to speed up its programme and aim for victory at Le Mans a year in advance.
While waiting for the new 650 “spider” according to Bernard Boyer’s plans and Roland Roy’s manufacture, taking into account the stability factor more than the 630, it was decided to adapt the 630 to the 1969 regulations: it will be the 630-650. Two cars of this form were entered at Le Mans in 1969, numbers 34 and 35, although designated on their sides as MS 650.
The No. 34 is built on the basis of the No. 24 of 1968, its anti-roll bar is not compatible, DIY is essential. A second tube is fixed above the ring by means of an upper welding point, leaving the base embedded in the polyester.
